The extensive renovation of a prestigious Toorak Gardens home meant working once again alongside one of South Australia’s most highly-respected, boutique building and interior design companies — Craig Linke Bespoke Building. The scale of the project was significant, demanding premium tradespeople and premium products — and the result was nothing short of spectacular.

“Apart from the outside walls of the house and a couple of internal walls, which were left intact, every square inch of the home was gutted and redone to a high architectural spec,” Craig Linke Bespoke Building General Manager Jake Devlin explains. “It was a huge undertaking, with all new subfloor and flooring, all ceilings replaced; and we transitioned the kitchen from one side of the home to the other to provide a view of the new pool and sunken entertainment area. It needed the best materials and finishes, artisans and trades.”

One key focus of the brief was to replicate the designs and features of the 100-year-old home — something that was entrusted to the Bone Timber team, who supplied custom-made architraves, skirtings and decorative timber mouldings for the project, as well as the structural pine.

“Some of the original timber mouldings remained, so we worked with Bone Timber to replicate them. They’ve got the facilities in Edwardstown to be able to produce modern timber, and in this case, replicate the older timber mouldings, which was exactly what we needed. We knew that they were the right people to do it so that someone walking in couldn’t tell the old from the new,” Jake says.

The project allowed Bone Timber Business Development Manager Jacob Bortoletto to entrust the team to do what Bone Timber does best. “Our team in the mill machined the custom-made mouldings, which were replicated to a tee from the existing designs and features of the original home.”

Despite a few time constraints, the teams worked together to meet the brief and ensure every aspect was completed to the high standard that both companies pride themselves on. “We’ve worked with Bone for many years, and we’ve always loved it. The team is always quick in responding to queries, and they always make the process easy and enjoyable,” Jake says.

The Craig Linke Bespoke Building team is now in the final stages of landscaping the property, and the end result of the project has met all expectations, as Jake explains: “We are all very happy with the result of Belltunga. If something wasn’t up to standard, it would stick out, and everything, including the timbers, is premium. It’s come up beautifully.”
